The history of Allmake Sewing.

Allmake Sewing began its journey in the heart of the Australian sewing community over three decades ago. Heinz and Margrit Leuenberger's dedication transformed Allmake into a hub of creativity and knowledge in Clarence Park. Since taking over in 1987, their passion for sewing and support for country towns resonated through their travels. By attending field days and offering machine servicing, they ensured that no community was left without access to quality sewing tools and expertise.

Their commitment to education is evident in the establishment of numerous sewing machine agencies across the state. Through training and teaching, they shared their extensive knowledge, empowering countless individuals to explore their creativity through sewing.

The opening of the Creative Cottage marked another significant milestone, where a diverse array of fabrics came to life within its welcoming rooms. The cottage not only provided materials for projects but also became a vibrant center for creativity, hosting hundreds of classes annually. This enriching environment fostered a strong sense of community among sewing enthusiasts, allowing for the exchange of ideas and skills. The legacy that Heinz and Margrit built continues to inspire and nurture the sewing community in and beyond Clarence Park.

Their hard work and dedication to Allmake and their customers brought them much satisfaction, and it was with great pleasure that they were able to hand the baton on to their daughter Wendy and son-in-law Damien in 2010.

Over the next few years it became apparent that some major changes needed to happen with the surge of online shopping. It was time to close the Creative Cottage and focus on sales and service. In 2019 it was time to let go of the PFAFF brand as the gap in values between the two companies had widened, and Allmake added Juki domestic machines and overlockers to their fleet.

2020 was a turbulent time for many businesses as COVID hit Australia. Thankfully with the amazing support of customers and staff, Allmake was able to press on and continue to serve the sewing community. It was through this time that Damien and Wendy made the decision to relocate Allmake to the Adelaide Hills. With a small family, the need to be closer to home, and a desire to serve from a place of passion, Allmake in Stirling was opened in October 2021.

As time has passed, Allmake Sewing has embraced advancements in technology and trends in the sewing industry. The company has also been committed to sustainability, sourcing materials that are both environmentally friendly and ethically produced. This commitment to sustainability resonates with many of our customers, who value responsible practices alongside high-quality craftsmanship.

Today, Allmake Sewing continues to serve the sewing community with a diverse selection of products, dedicated customer support, and a wealth of resources, including tutorials and workshops. Our history is not just about the evolution of a brand but the growth of a community that celebrates the art of sewing, creativity, and craftsmanship.

Supporting BERNINA since the beginning.

Heinz did a 4 year apprenticeship as a Tool Maker and specialised training on sewing machines at the SWISS-BERNINA Factory in Steckborn, Switzerland, before coming to Australia in 1980 with his wife Margrit. Along with his experience with PFAFF, this allowed him to train several young men into assistants in his workshop. It is only natural that BERNINA is making its presence felt at Allmake by way of a great range of machines, accessories and an active workshop at Allmake.

The 10 year warranty on sewing machines and the back up service that Allmake receives from Bernina Australia is outstanding. The flow on effect to customers is that they can feel 100% secure in their purchase knowing that the manufacturer is 100% behind its product, and Allmake as a dealer. When a customer purchases a Bernina, they really do become part of the ‘Bernina family’ as Bernina Australia pride themselves on service, integrity and accountability.

And now for Juki….

For 3 years, Wendy and Damien searched and tested the market for a suitable domestic semi industrial machine for a particular niche market who demands a simple but quality straight stitch with a strong feed mechanism. With so many customers walking into Allmake looking for a well made, strong, reliable machine which ‘just does a good straight stitch without all the bells and whistles’ to sew upholstery fabrics, for small businesses and for the quilter who just wants to piece and quilt, the challenge was on.

Since 2019 Allmake Sewing are proud to be Juki dealers for sales, service, repair and warranty work. The quality found in the portable semi-industrial machines is outstanding. The machines are engineered to last, and they have a sturdy industrial feel about them which gives the user and consumer confidence in the product.
