Bernina L890 Combo Air Threader Overlocker with Coverstitch -
The Bernina 8 series combo overlocker and coverstitch is THE ultimate when it comes to garment construction, you have the best of both worlds, in one machine!
The L890 is the easiest combo machine to switch between coverstitch and overlockering because the two looper threads are threaded by the push of a button. The LED 4.3” colour touch screen allows advanced users to apply all settings directly in Expert mode, while the Guided Mode offers step-by-step instructions. Both modes automatically set the thread tension, stitch length and difference feed along with stitch selection.
The L 890 sews using 2,3,4 or 5 threads, providing the perfect seam for every design. From the stretchiest knits to the most loosely woven fabrics the L890 has the perfect stitch for particularly highly elastic and knitted materials, and threads. Combine both overlock, cover and chainstitches for extra durable seams using 4- or 5-thread combo stitches.
The L890 boasts not only quick and easy threading and a free arm for small construction areas, but also the Bernina Free Hand System (FHS) which allows you to raise and lower the presser foot with your knee so you hands are both free to handle the fabric. In addition, the presser foot easily swings out for convenient access to the needles and for ease of placing lower threads under the foot before starting to sew. We love the mtc ( Micro Thread Control) found on all Bernina overlockers - simply put, allows micro adjustments to the over-the-edge thread loops - it means you don't have to fiddle with tensions to get things just right!).
While in the past we have been a bit cautious about recommending a combo mode cover-lock machine, this one ticks all our boxes and we are very happy to recommend it to anyone else who needs their precision, ease of use and quality boxes ticked when it comes to a combo machine! The air threader is amazing!!
With the BERNINA Free Hand System (FHS) you can raise and lower the presser foot with your knee. This noticeably improves clearance under the presser foot, which in turn facilitates fabric handling. You will save time and achieve perfect results!
The BERNINA Foot Control and DC motor allow a top speed of up to 1,350 stitches per minute but also stitch by stitch sewing. This makes it easy to work with delicate or heavy fabrics that require extra care in handling. The needle automatically stops in the up position, but can be put on the down position by pressing down on the foot control with your heel - genius! On the screen you can also choose for the needle to be programmed in the down position.
The slide-on table extends the sewing area to the left of the needle. It allows large fabrics to be guided more easily and gives a better overview onto the sewing project. When not in use you can choose to have a free arm, or to slide on a small insert to create a flat but smaller surface than that of the slide on table.
The patended mtc (Micro Thread Control) saves you significant time and effort while ensuring consistent high-quality stitches, since you need only set thread tension once – even if you alter the cutting width and fabric thickness! The mtc fine tunes over edge threads and allows you to sew up to 9mm wide
The most commonly used accessories are located in the looper cover, neatly arranged and ready to be used. The additional accessory box holds the seam guide, spool caps and tools. A range of optional feet for your creative overlocking and coverstitching is available.
